Helen Dunham by John Singer Sargent.
I learned the “greenest” skintone is dark-gray yellow, the “purplest” is red-gray… and those folded hands bent my mind.
I ADJUSTED HER HEAD BUT IT’S STILL MESSED UP AUUUGHHH
Veery nice. You could have gone more purple in places and a little cooler in the cools of her skintones, but this is overall lovely, oh wow.
What’s happening with the head is that the jaw is actually longer than you made it - you gave her a more heart-shaped face, with a petite chin, and that threw off your proportions juuust enough. It’s a subtle thing, but what can help is to compare shapes that aren’t the Thing you are trying to draw: for example, look at the negative space between her chin, shoulder, and fluffy collar, then at the negative space between these things in your study.
Hands are hard and Sargent was a wizard. (you can push the darks on the back of her hand, though - look how dark Sargent painted it)
